Meet the author

Tom Plemmons grew up as a Baptist missionary kid, living in Germany from the time he was seven until just two weeks before his eighteenth birthday. He married the girl of his dreams in 1999 at the ripe age of twenty and has been married to her ever since! His daughter and son are both grown and married to the wonderful spouses God has provided for them. He and his extended family are faithful members of Lake Worth Baptist Church in Lake Worth, Texas.

Tom serves part-time as Chief Administrative Officer and Partner at Blacklands Security Group, where he oversees training coordination, compliance, and administrative strategy with a steady hand and a heart for service. He is a certified Glock Armorer and is currently pursuing his NRA Pistol Instructor certification as well as his Texas LTC Instructor License.

His passion for educating and training Christians and sharing the gospel with the world led him to write the Sell Your Cloak book—a call to spiritual and practical readiness inspired by Luke 22:36. This passion continues to shape his ministry and daily life as he shares the message with everyone he has the opportunity to reach.

He is also the host of Well Lit Path, a weekly podcast ministry of Lake Worth Baptist Church, where he shares biblical insights and personal reflections to encourage believers to walk closer with God.

Outside of his professional and ministry responsibilities, Tom is a devoted husband, a proud father of two, a loving son and brother, and an Opa—embracing his role as a grandfather with heartfelt purpose and joy. Whether he’s behind a microphone, in the office, or spending time with family, Tom strives to live intentionally and shine the light of Christ on the path ahead.

About Sell Your Cloak

A Calling to Readiness. A Community of Resolve.

The mission of Sell Your Cloak is simple: to call men of God to rise from spiritual sleep, reclaim their God-given responsibility, and walk in the balance of meekness and readiness. We are not forming a militia—we’re awakening a generation of men to the holy burden of leadership, protection, and spiritual stewardship. The world doesn’t need louder men. It needs prepared ones. Gentle in spirit. Fierce in conviction. Ready in every way.

The name comes from the words of Christ in Luke 22:36:

“…he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.”

That’s not a call to violence—it’s a call to awareness. To spiritual seriousness. To practical responsibility. In a culture that celebrates softness, delay, and comfort, Sell Your Cloak calls men to give up the cloak of ease and take up the mantle of readiness.

Why I Wrote the Book

I didn’t write Sell Your Cloak because I’ve mastered this walk. I wrote it because I’m in the thick of it. Because I looked around and saw too many men—good men, faithful men—waiting on someone else to lead, someone else to train, someone else to be ready.

The vast majority of the books written on this subject come from a military or law enforcement perspective. And while those voices are invaluable and have helped shape me personally, I’ll be the first to admit that at a glance they can sometimes be daunting. They can feel unreachable to the average man who didn’t serve, who’s never worn a badge, who’s just trying to hold his family together and walk with God in an increasingly unstable world.

I’m not a Navy SEAL. I’m not a tactical guru. I’m a husband. A father. A brother in Christ. I’ve wrestled with the balance of spiritual pacifism and practical preparation. I’ve sat with Scripture and asked hard questions. I’ve read the passage and first ignored then felt the pull of “Train your hands to war, and your heart to trust.” This book is for the men who feel the same pull.

It’s for the man who knows he needs to lead, but doesn’t know where to begin.

It’s for the man who doesn’t feel brave—but is willing to stand anyway.

It’s for the man who loves his Bible, loves his family, and knows that loving them means being ready to protect them—spiritually, emotionally, and if needed, physically.

My Prayer for This Community

My prayer is that Sell Your Cloak becomes more than a book, more than a brand. That it becomes a brotherhood.

Not one built on toughness, but on truth.

Not on bravado, but on biblical balance.

Not on fear, but on faith.

I pray for a community of men who will:

  • Stay soft before the Lord and strong before the world.

  • Teach their sons to pray and to prepare.

  • Lead their homes with love and readiness.

  • Walk closely with their local church.

  • Encourage one another in spiritual discipline and daily obedience.

This isn’t about building a platform. It’s about building a remnant.

A generation of men who take seriously the call to stand watch—over their hearts, their homes, and the household of faith.

So if you’ve sold your cloak, if you’ve laid down comfort to take up the charge, welcome. You’re not alone.

Let’s walk this road together. Eyes up. Sword ready. Hearts steady.

Because we were never meant to be passive.

We were meant to be prepared.
